Libyan Foul Winds of No Change

BLUF: The profile of extremist groups in Libya is, well, LIBYA! Even CBS reports that Ansar al-Sharia, an offshoot of al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack. Based on the long and inglorious history of islamist, liberation fronts, and other anti-legitimate -government groups have received training, arms, pay, and a place to hide in Libya, it is no shock that the entire country crawls with groups of terrorists. Literally, this place is an open sewer of terrorist scum and villainy.

What else do we need to know about the Islamic groups in Libya? We know that the nation has not been receiving overtly authorized funding from the US government. All assets that the US could reach had been frozen. We know that the administration left those men to die. We know the administration tried to minimize casualties in the attacker’s ranks by ordering the US Governmental security officers to lay down their guns. We know that the February 17th Brigade had the job of providing security at the US Embassy in Benghazi. We also know that the February 17th Brigade has a history with al Qaeda. They have even openly flown the al Qaeda black flag of jihad. We also know that classified information has been compromised. What many readers may not know is that classified information is classified to protect the sources. Some of the sources may be electronic while others may be from people. In any cases, as we saw when Carter revealed that information to Iran, those sources are removed. Being removed in the Middle East means that the person providing that information, having done so at grave personal risk, now watches all the women in his family get raped, tortured, and murdered. Then, the source watches the men in his family get the same thing. Finally, after being tortured and raped himself, he is also killed.

Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts (1)

Considering that there was also oil contracts information enclosed, it might have included projections of how many refineries are set to close in the US (currently we have 145, and the number is dropping) and who may have been in consideration to get the refining business. It may also have had information regarding who was to get agreements to drill in the US territories. This kind of insider information would be highly valuable to the right people who want to see the US lose more of our own wealth and power.

Let’s also consider the fact that insider attacks are common against the US in the Middle East. Afghanistan, almost daily attacks by terrorists working inside the security apparatchik

But other indications that the White House’s early narrative was faulty are also beginning to emerge. One current U.S. intelligence officer working on the investigation into the incident told The Daily Beast that the attackers had staked out and monitored the U.S. consulate in Benghazi before the attack, a move that suggests pre-planning (2).

Libya Shield Brigade -

About that Libya Shield Brigade which 1) fought under the black flag of al Qaeda during the February 17 Revolution, and 2) escorted the eight US Marines who arrived from Tripoli to aid the Benghazi consulate under attack on the night of 9/11/12.

Two Libya Shield Brigade leaders met with US diplomat(s) on September 9, according to a US embassy cable drafted by David C. McFarland, signed by Christopher Stevens and dispatched on September 11. (It was posted online by the House Oversight Committee.) This cable was first discussed in the Daily Beast on October 8 in a story recounting the fact that generic militia leaders had threatened to pull security from US interests in Benghazi, but it contains some interesting details not previously noted.

Just after the death of Kaddafi Libya Shield commander Wisam bin Hamid declared that “The Islamic shariah is a red line, we will not cede one rule of it, and Islam is the only law-giver and not [merely] the foundation [of the law].” So, by all means, Obama and Hillary left them in charge of security for our Embassy.

Here is the cable's Item 4 in toto:

Militia commanders discuss Muslim Brotherhood, Jibril, their political aspirations, the economy, and security: In a September 9 meeting, local area militia commanders Wissam bin Ahmed (Commander, Libya Shield 1) and Muhammad al-Gharabi (Commander, Rafa' al-Sahti Brigade, Libya Shield 2) discussed the very fluid relationships and blurry lines they say define membership in Benghazi-based brigades under the February 17, Libya Shield, and SSC umbrellas. They themselves were members of multiple brigades, they said. They debated -- hotly and without resolution -- about which brigades supported or opposed specific causes. They claimed to exercise "control" over Libyan Armed Forces Chief of Staff Yusef Mangoush who "depends" on them to secure eastern Libya. In times of crisis, Magoush has no other choice than to turn to their brigades for help, they said, as he did recently with unrest in Kufra. As part of this arrangement, Mangoush often provides the brigades direct stocks of weapons and ammunition, they said.Al-Gharabi and bin-Ahmed support the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood's Justice and Construction Party backed candidate Minister of Electricity Awad Al Barasi for Prime Minister and they said that. if elected, Al Barasi would appoint Fawzi Bukatif, Commander of the February 17 Brigade, as Minister of Defense. Bukatif's appointment would open the MOD and other security ministries and offices to plum-appointments for his most favored brigade commanders -- giving February 17 and Libya Shield tacit control of the armed forces. They criticized the USG for "supporting" National Forces Alliance (NFA) leader and Prime Mininster Candidate Mahmoud Jibril. If Jibril wom, they said, they would not continue to guarantee security in Benghazi, a crtical function they asserted they were currently providing.Growing problem with security would discourage foreign investment and led [sic] to persistent stagnation in eastern Libya, but the US could play a role by "pressuring" American business to invest in Benghazi.

We know from John Rosenthal's original story that Libya Shield fought under black flag of al Qaeda. Its leader Wissam bin Ahmed -- I've seen Libya Shield's commander spelled "bin Hamid";seems to be the same guy UPDATE: An authoritative source confirms that Libya Shield commander "bin Hamid" and "bin Ahmed" are one and the same -- it bears repeating, is a supporter of rule by sharia.

Rosenthal writes:

Moreover, according to Arabic-language Islamist websites, already in October 2011 – just days after the killing of Moammar al-Gadhafi –

Arabic sources report that bin Hamid commanded the rebel forces that besieged Gadhafi’s hometown of Sirte and ultimately captured and killed him. Per a glowingbiography of bin Hamid that appeared on the jihadist forum al-Fetn.com, he is a veteran of jihad in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The jihadist inclinations of bin Hamid and his Libya Shield forces are not unknown to the U.S. government. Indeed, a recent studyprepared by the research division of the Library of Congress links the Libya Shield Brigade to al-Qaida and even cites speculation that bin Hamid may be the leader of the al-Qaida network in Libya.

This man is not only meeting with American diplomats, he is providing security for them and threatening to withdraw security at the same time. Ansar al Sharia (Supporters of Sharia) may have spearheaded the 9/11 assault on the consulate, but bin Hamid's philosophy earns him at least honorary membership. A sharia supporter, a Muslim Brotherhood supporter, seemingly a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan -- on the OTHER side, it must be stressed -- and, according to US government research, possibly a leader of the AQ network in Libya, bin Hamid is quite a piece of work.

Why, oh why, is guarding American interests? Why was he even meeting with American diplomats? What were we doing in Benghazi? This is the result of the poisonous policy of "Arab Spring." Uncle Sam joined the jihad, and it exploded is his face.

It should be noted that news accounts make clear that the second-wave-attack on the secret annex did not occur until after Libya Shield, escorting the 8 Marines, arrived on the scene.

US Relied on Muslim Brotherhood for Benghazi Consulate Security

September 21, 2012 By Daniel Greenfield 12 Comments

The more we learn about what happened in Benghazi, the clearer things become.

Two U.S. intelligence officials told The Daily Beast that the intelligence community is currently analyzing an intercept between a Libyan politician whose sympathies are with al Qaeda and the Libyan militia known as the February 17 Brigade—which had been charged with providing local security to the consulate. In the intercept, the Libyan politician apparently asks an officer in the brigade to have his men stand down for a pending attack—another piece of evidence implying the violence was planned in advance.

Many more-secular politicians in Libya are suspicious of Mr. Bukatef and his brigade because of their own Islamist reputation. He has been a member of Libya’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and one of his group’s commanders reporting to him is Ismail al-Salabi, who leads a group of Islamist fighters and is the brother of Libya’s most prominent Islamist thinker, Ali al-Salabi.

The State Department puts its faith in the Islamists… and the Islamists repaid them the way they always do.

US security officers and the Libyan authorities did not call for help from any formal military or police force — there is none to speak of — but turned to the leader of another autonomous militia with its own Islamist ties.

‘‘We had to coordinate everything,’’ said that militia leader, Fawzi Bukatef, recalling a phone call about the attack that he received from the mission’s security team.

I’m sure there was a whole lot of coordinating going on.

Iran, Obama, UN, and a Litany of Failed Policies

In March 2009 newly frocked President Obama offered Iran a ‘new beginning’. The world quickly learned that the policy change and new beginning required by Iran was for the West to fully embrace a nuclear Iran. When Iran did not unclench their fist, the US extended sanctions against Iran. Still, Iran moved forward on its nuclear ambitions. The message was that the West will stand here and say “Stop, or I’ll say ‘stop’ again” (thank you, Robin Williams for that line).

The new sanctions, which were followed by more sanctions, were to show Iran the strength of international resolve against a nuclear [People’s] Republic of Iran. Those sanctions, as all the others, were quickly and flagrantly violated. Obama leads the world to say stop and holds out his hand. Iran responds with an end run around Obama while laughing and spouting rhetoric to its allies. The message was “West, get bent.” March 9, 2010 Obama's Iran Policy Collapses to the Accompaniment of Mockery Around the Globe is the title of an article I reposted just weeks ago.

In spite of Western good will and the UNSC’s “strongest sanctions to date” against Iran, Iran was moving forward with intent towards its stated goals of nuclear power. The sanctions against Iran wer to make it harder for Iran to get refined petroleum; either they really do not need that much refined petroleum or Iranian leadership does not care about the needs of its own people. I look at the killing of Iranian protestors in Tehran and can only think that Iran doesn’t really care about its people. But, that’s just me, maybe it was tough love or something like that. This ‘goodwill’ in my terms amounts to ‘appeasement’ which has never worked with dictatorial regimes.

Fast forward to today and we see that Iranian president Mahmud Ahmedinijad is giving a speech at the UN General Assembly (UNGA). Michelle Bachmann wants Obama to block that speech. Bachmann points out that Ahmedinijad “… has proven he is in violation of the United Nations charter and of international law," Bachmann declared. "Since he is, in the most literal sense, an outlaw, he should not be allowed in the United States of America." I would push to take it further; the US should arrest Ahmedinijad and hold him for the International Criminal Courts. However, we have treaty obligations which require us to permit this mass murdering talking head come in and have his say.

The GOP has taken note, as have you the observant and inquiring readers, that Obama’s policies towards the Middle East are amateurish and have failed and many are blaming Obama for the most contentious of issues which are ongoing during this UN Assembly. Mitt Romney has pointedly said what I have been saying, that is by giving Palestine a state the entire Middle East Peace Process is being thrown under a bus with Israel.
Peaceful discourse, mutually supportive policies, economic growth, and the realization of certain inalienable rights to all peoples is one way of summarizing US goals and diplomatic efforts. Achieving these goals anywhere has proven difficult. Achieving these goals in the Middle East has proven impossible, at least for the past several decades. Dealing with Iran and Syria has been emblematic of this struggle faced by US policy makers.

In short, the Middle East is ruled by iron fisted dictators that visit their sadistic pleasures against their citizens, routinely and violently attack neighbors based on issues as seemingly trivial as what form of religion they practice, and smile too sweetly at the US with their hands extended either for a questionable handshake or for money. Unless the West drastically changes its political will and stands tall with testicular fortitude, the Middle East WILL devolve further from our vision of peace and further into chaos. The problem with deepening chaos is that the entire world will feel that pain. How much oil do we depend on these sanctimonious psychopaths for? How much of the worlds trade travels through their regions? How much are we going to have to pay in our own ransom before there is another knife at our global throat?

My suggestion is to stand strong and respond to a bloody nose with a bloody nose and breaking of the knee.

Week In Review September 9, 2011

I have written quite a bit this week about Iran and its apparent intentions. Monday I had asked if Iran is planning on being the seat of the caliphate. The answer to that is yes, I believe that Iran is planning to be the seat of the caliphate. It may have been al Qaeda that wrote the 7 Phases, but it is Iran that is carrying them out. Those phases are outlined below.
The First Phase is "the awakening" -- this has already been carried out and was supposed to have lasted from 2000 to 2003, or more precisely from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York and Washington to the fall of Baghdad in 2003.In short, to provoke and promote war.
The Second Phase "Opening Eyes" is to make the western conspiracy aware of the "Islamic community."
The Third Phase This is an "Arising and Standing Up" and should last from 2007 to 2010. "There will be a focus on Syria,"
The Fourth Phase Between 2010 and 2013, Hussein writes that al-Qaida will aim to bring about the collapse of the hated Arabic governments.
The Fifth Phase This will be the point at which an Islamic state, or caliphate, can be declared. The plan is that by this time, between 2013 and 2016, Western influence in the Islamic world will be so reduced and Israel weakened so much, that resistance will not be feared.
The Sixth Phase Hussein believes that from 2016 onwards there will a period of "total confrontation." As soon as the caliphate has been declared the "Islamic army" it will instigate the "fight between the believers and the non-believers" which has so often been predicted by Osama bin Laden.
The Seventh Phase This final stage is described as "definitive victory."

So far, Ahmedinijad is leading the way on this. Chaos is central to Ahmadinejad's religious beliefs and, by extension, his hopes for the future. He believes, as many zealous Shi'ites do, that the Twelfth Imam, or "Mahdi," a messianic figure from the ninth century, will soon reappear to signal the end of the modern world and the onset of Islamic justice over all the earth. Ahmadinejad believes that his presidency will herald the Mahdi.

It has come out that Iran was one of the first to purchase a missile launching system from Russia. This system, known as the Club K, can be hidden inside a cargo container and brought right into the target zone. Until it is activated the system is virtually undetectable. By the time that anyone knows the system is in place it will be far too late to do anything about the first few vollies of rockets launched. To make this even better, the Club K can deploy low level nuclear warheads.

With Syria being part of the aforementioned 7 Step Plan, I have looked more at the country than Obama and Clinton seem to. Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad to U.S. President Barack Obama: Your words are worthless. How much more succinct can that be? The East sees giving in and changing the way it conducting itself as giving up all their rights.Al-Assad, al-Basher of Sudan, and Ahmedinijad believe that it is their right to kill whoever gets in their way. No amount of apologizing by Obama or tes sipped at a table with Clinton is going to change that. While the UN eventually was tasked to bring a change in Libya, it is not likely here. As a proxy to Iran, al-Assad has said "Not in their wildest dreams – not now and not under different circumstances." an, in fact, continues to slaughter the Sunni population of his own country.

This week we got to read an excellent piece on the nine fronts of war that Israel is facing.  The Arab Spring has turned to an arid and deadly Arab Summer. The spreading chaos and failing of governments across the region would fit into the plan of Ahmedinijad to herald in the mahdi. In order to accomplish this, there must be utter chaos, and chaos is spreading like roaches in a tenement building. Iranian proxies are now surrounding Israel and Saudi Arabia. And Iran is moving ahead with alacrity to attain full nuclear capability.

Part of the recommended, and underdone, initiatives is the Container Security Initiative.; an initiative that would make the use of the Club K far more difficult from inside contiguous waters near large ports. The raid in Pakistan by the SEALs brought back plans that Osama was still planning to attack ports or attack from them. From the information I have seen, this piece of our national armor is another languishing from the neglect of the Appeaser in Chief and his lackeys.

Meanwhile, the TSA continues to steal, rape, and plunder the people and nation it is supposed to be protecting. Even the new Behavioral Assessment plan has had one member caught and arrested for assisting a drug courier.

But not to worry! Seriously, Napolitano has just paid out some $12 million dollars under the Homeland Fiscal Grant Allocations decision. After reviewing them there is not one penny given to detect or to look at suspect shipping containers. She has paid $12 mil into "feel good" programs that, in the end, will amount to squat. The letter written by Dr. Jim Giermanski, Chairman Powers Global Holdings, Inc. makes that point abundantly clear.

“But, surely, we can talk reason to them” I hear at the coffee shops. To which I reply, “You can’t talk reason to the insane and don’t call me Shirley.” Peaceful discourse, mutually supportive policies, economic growth, and the realization of certain inalienable rights to all peoples is one way of summarizing US goals and diplomatic efforts. Achieving these goals anywhere has proven difficult. Achieving these goals in the Middle East has proven impossible, at least for the past several decades. Dealing with Iran and Syria has been emblematic of this struggle faced by US policy makers.

We, as a nation, are facing several threats and problems. Many of which can be dealt with in the immediate and short term by opening up jobs in America. Those jobs that would help us most to increase manufacturing and decrease our reliance on the importation of OPEC petroleum (which is now run by a person identified by the US Treasury and the State Department as a criminal whose assets should be frozen, an apparent supporter of terror, and legally banned from doing business with US persons and corporations) are in the US petroleum market. By lifting Theban on US drilling, authorizing the Keystone XL Pipeline, and lowering taxes on businesses there would be an immediate jump in employment and national revenue due to nearly 2million people going to work. This would also serve our nation in the mid and long term as we would quickly get stronger and would be able to exploit the natural gas and oil reserves in a cleaner and safer manner than those in the Middle East. These reserves, mind you, are estimated to represent some 92% of the world’s resources by 2032.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and, please, call your elected officials and insist they support America.

Foreign Aid Bill

I have posted quite a bit, and will continue to post, about the national budget. Of particular interest to us is where in the world our tax dollars go and how do the recipient countries treat America on the global and personal levels.

It would be in all of our interests to let these members know that we are watching closely how they intend to spend our money. The 2012 bill has less funds going to foreign interests than Obama wanted, but it amy be more than We, The People, should like.

Middle East: Rep. Kay Granger Steps Up
From the JPost:

Washington’s $2 billion in annual aid to Egypt will be cut off if Cairo backs out of the peace treaty with Israel, Congresswoman Kay Granger – whose job as chairwoman of the US House appropriations foreign operations subcommittee means she literally writes America’s annual foreign aid bill – told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.

“The United States aid to Egypt is predicated on the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, and so the relationship between Egypt and Israel is extremely important,” the eight-term Republican from Texas said in an interview.

“As an appropriator I have two concerns: One thing is the continuing relationship between Egypt and Israel, and the other thing of course is what government we will be dealing with in Egypt, and what position the Muslim Brotherhood will play in this government.”

Granger, who is visiting Israel with a group of House Republicans, will also inform Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that if the PA goes through with their unilateral statehood plans at the UN, $500M in US aid will be cut, including aid to the Palestinian security forces.

Syrian Slaughter Is A Family Tradition

BLUF
Since 1963 the Assad family has been conducting its own apartheid regime. The Assad family appears to be Alawite, a Shi’ia sect. I say this because, since 1963, Sunni’s have been the target of the Assad vulgarities and tortures. Hafiz al-Assad took over and scrubbed the military and intelligence apparatus of Sunni muslims.

It would appear that the State Department and the White House are tongue tied as to what to say about the Shi'ite violence against Sunnis in Syria. Where did we see this before ... Iran, 2009 or so?

Foreign aid to Syria was only just recently halted.

BACKGROUND
“While the international trend is heading progressively towards promoting respect for human rights, the Syrian regime is moving against history and the spirit of the age, in a direction contrary to the Syrian, Arab, and international public opinion. Thus, the repressive nature of this regime represents the utmost setback to values and principles acknowledged by international legitimacy.”

Many of the articles and assessments of Syria’s human rights practices, including the current Clintonian State Department, use words like “poor” and “struggling” as descriptors. I use the term abysmal. Since 1963 Syria has suffered horrendously under an iron fist. For the UN to look at the last five months and urge, insist, and demand the violence against his own people stop is ludicrous seeing that the impotent international body knew of Syria’s apartheid policies and practices for decades, not years but decades.

This year al-Assad has slaughtered approximately 2,200 people. This number ignores the people who were tortured, raped, and worse. Amnesty International reported that during the period of 1979 to 1999 Syria used at least 38 different forms of torture. Of these forms of torture, water boarding and sleep deprivation are the least horrific used.

Opening an emergency session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Ms Pillay said: "The gravity of ongoing violations and brutal attacks against the peaceful protesters in that country demand your continued attention." It would appear that the victims of these attacks are largely Sunni and that the perpetrators are entrenched Alawites, a Shi’ite sect. Where else have we recently witnessed Shi’ites slaughtering there citizens? Oh, yes, Iran in 2009. Again, nothing said and nothing done.

"It's troubling that he has not kept his words," Mr Ban told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York. "I sincerely hope that he heeds... all [the] international community's appeals and calls." Troubling, to say the least; the impotence of the UN and the depravity which is being allowed to continue, paid for in no small part by US Tax Dollars, is troubling to the UN. It is enough to make me vomit.

In previous posts I pointed out the largest and most powerful voting bloc in the UN is comprised of OIC/OPEC states. On the Human Rights Council sit, among others, Jordan Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia which apparently voted in support of Assad. Again, the UN fails human rights and humanity.

Somali Test Bombers

Do you recall last week when three Somalis tried to get a fake bomb into the terminal? I do. I thought we were busy savign Somalis in Somalia? Why are they trying to bomb us here? Ongoing investigation or not, call your elected perpetrators, er representatives and DEMAND that the US STOP sending aid dollars into Somalia. I am telling you, folks, nothing good is going to come out of helping Somalia. We went there under Clintonian efforts to save the people during a famine (sound familiar?) then Black Hawk Down happened. In 2007 two aid planes were shot down. Just recently it has been "revealed" that aid is being stolen, rerouted, and extorted from those who need it most. This is Somalia! This is how they say thank you!

Phoenix TSA Bomb ‘Probe’ Confounds
By John Guzzon
Modern Times Magazine
Aug. 17, 2011 — When a Somali immigrant was stopped by TSA agents last week at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport for allegedly carrying a fake bomb onto a plane, no one really seemed to notice.
Sure, it was reported by all the usual sources, but because it is an ongoing investigation, law enforcement — specifically the FBI — is not providing many details. The only three people that had anything to do with the ‘fake bomb’  — as far as the public knows — are in jail. The only information available for public consumption is a press release from the FBI announcing a complaint had been filed and the complaint itself.
The scant evidence — Sheriff’s Office mugshots and the complaint — leaves a wide range of options within which to speculate on what happened. But make no mistake, this might be one of the most important homeland security events since 2001.
But then again, it could be just someone carrying something that authorities thought was  bomb although it was an innocent mistake.
See what I mean?
Luwiza Laku Daman, the Somali woman who was taken into custody by TSA and Phoenix Police for trying to get through security with what looked like a bomb, told law enforcement she came to Phoenix from Des Moines, Iowa, for a wedding and that she was indirectly given a package from a Somali living in Phoenix. She was asked by a friend to take the package to a Somali man living in DesMoines. Virtually all of the other details of Daman’s initial story have changed, although in the complaint it is acknowledged that language barriers between law enforcement and the suspects made interrogations difficult.
But the inconsistencies don’t really seem to amount to much. Daman, who has been in the U.S. for about four months, initially said she was staying with one woman, but that person said she stayed with another woman. The details of how she got the package have changed — but just how she got it. One version of the story says “Jaffa” who eventually was discovered to be Shullu Gorado of West Phoenix gave it to another woman at her house. Another story says he gave it to same woman at another person’s home.
He was sending some “halva” a middle-eastern confection, to friends in Iowa. The halva, according to police, was the simulated explosive.
Another man, Asa Shani, says he found a cellular phone in Phoenix and was hoping Daman would take it to his brother in Des Moines. It was taped to the top of the box of halva. He even took investigators out to his car where they inspected the tape he used.
That, according to investigators, was the simulated detonator.
Now, that is the story the suspects told. As every red-blooded American knows from the cop shows, the stories might just be a tale, or it may be the truth.
The federal complain charges the three suspects with violation of Title 18 — which makes it illegal to transmit a fake bomb through security at an airport. Even if the simualted exposive device turns out to be some sugar and flour in a box with a phone taped on it. The thing didn’t even have any wires.
Special Agent Benjamin Oesterle wrote in the complaint that it was believed that the actions of Daman, Gorado and Shani could have been to probe airport security to find out how to exploit it and TSA’s response. But the fact is, if that is happening, who is financing them and where will they strike next? If some terror group is responsible for probing two airports thousands of miles apart within the same few days, isn’t that a pretty big threat?
But then again, it might just be a few security guards and cops getting a little too paranoid about a box of dessert and a cell phone.

Somali Aid Stolen

BLUF
Millions of people are starving to death. Food and money has been, and continues to be, sent into Somalia. I presume into the Mogadishu port facility. In spite of alleged rigorous monitoring and control by the UN WFP up to half of the food aid that comes in ends up being stolen.
My opinion is that the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) is the largest money making scheme in history. Bernie Madoff could not have had a better plan. It is time for the world to require Somalia to stand up as its own country. Push the bird out of the nest.

BACKGROUND
After the end of the Siad Barre bloody and violent regime fell, there was a famine. In 1992 the UN and the US went into Somalia under Operation Restore Hope, although, I seriously doubt there was any real hope.  The purpose for being there was to ensure the safety of food and aid going to the people of Somalia. The world sends in help and gets thanked with RPGs, machine guns, and grenades.
Fast forward 15 years, and nothing has gotten any better. In 2007 muslim fighters for al-Shabaab shot down two aid planes, one was incapacitated the other spread over two miles of desolate Somali ground. During the 15 year spread the TFG was established, spent most of its infancy living and “ruling” (ha!) from Kenya, and was forced (yes, kicked out of Kenya forcibly) to move into  Somalia to rule. Since then, they have been corrupt, weak, backstabbing, in-fighting, nepotistic opportunists.
Now, 2011, nearly 20 years after the world’s last attempt at helping Somalia and its people, nothing is better and nothing has changed. The World Food Program (WFP) now acknowledges that there has been some theft of aid. They have been investigating this for two months. I have been watching this go on for years via the internet and newspapers.
As officials claimed and news reports persisted the UN could no longer deny that its aid was being stolen.  It appears that the UN found its WFP supplies being sold at Bakara Market. This also happens to be one of the largest open air gun and goat markets in the region. At one of the sites for stolen food aid, about a dozen corrugated iron sheds are stacked with sacks. Outside, women sell food from open 110-pound (50-kilogram) sacks, and traders load the food onto carts or vehicles under the indifferent eyes of local officials.
It turns out that at the TFG run Baidoa Camp, a refugee camp located outside of Mogadishu, the management of the “camp” required a 50% kickback of supplies given by the WFP. If the kickback was questioned or sneered at in any way that person and his family was ejected from the camp, and this was probably not done in a sweet or gentle manner. As horrific as the camps are, they are preferred over the war zone that is Mogadishu.
Working in the region giving aid is dangerous. There are numerous ways to be killed for simply having food to give out. WFP has had 14 employees killed in Somalia since 2008. As a result of these and earlier deaths (including the machine gun execution of all members of a WFP convoy in mid 2007) the UN is calling for greater steps and assurances of security from the TFG and its allied organizations, transitional federal institutions (TFI). Aid will be allotted based on the TFI achieving certain benchmarks of security, but what those are is unclear at this time.

ASSESSMENT
Theft of aid will continue. Violence will continue to strangle efforts to aid the people of Somalia. Until the realization is made that the people and government of Somalia have to stand up and behave in a civilized manner, nothing is going to change. As a result, and as harsh as this sounds, all aid to Somalia needs to stop. The UN has said that there are benchmarks to be reached in order to get more aid, and I agree with this, in principle. If Somalia can meet certain benchmarks of civility, security, and common good they can receive assistance. But they have to stand up and calmly walk to the help. We should no longer bring it to them so they can kill us for it.
